Da Dum . . . Da Dum . . . Da Dum . . . The summer of 2000
was just like any other, until a Great White Man Eating Shark
called "JAWS" came to town. Located at the front
entrance, of Frontier Town, this 31.5 foot long Great White
Shark Exhibit was an actual working prop used in the filming
of the Paramount Pictures® "JAWS". The Great
White, the Father of all Man-Eaters, has jagged, razor-sharp
teeth, better-than-human eyesight and an incredibly sleek
body made of strong cartilage. This Great White Shark was
seen in the movie "JAWS" lurking in the murky ocean
waters, close to the beaches in hopes of finding his next
meal. Over the years, dissections of stomach contents of Great
White Sharks have included nuts and bolts, coil wire, lumps
of coal, boat cushions and clothing. However, most Great Whites
prefer to eat waterfowl, other sharks, dolphins, seals and,
of course, an occasional human. Take a picture with him .
. . if you dare!
AMERICAN
BISON EXHIBIT Location:Next to the Front Desk
American Bison (Buffalo) are the largest North American Land
Mammal with weights from 1,800 to 2,600 pounds. Until the
19th Century, as many as 60 million Bison lived on the Great
Plains from Mexico into Canada. They were central to the existence
of the Plains Indians, who used them for food, hides and bone
tools. Even the dried dung called buffalo chips, was used
as fuel. From 1830-1889, methodical destruction by encroaching
white settlers reduced their numbers to less than 1,000. Today,
30,000 Bison live on private ranches and protected areas such
as Yellowstone Park and Frontier Town. These animals played
an important part in the history of the great American West.
